Apr-9-00 (updated 9:13pm) Next practice: April 16th at 1:00PM
April 16th, 5 Mile and Inkster in Livonia, at 1:00PM

The weather pretty much cancelled the last practice, and in case you're wondering, this may be the last practice before the season begins.

BTW, LaRue tells me that Paul will be returning to the team this season after all :) He showed up with Mark Warren for today's snowed-out practice.

Apr-2-00 (updated 5:01pm) Next practice: April 9th at 1:00PM, Scrimmage game planned
Practice
We played a 10 on 10, 7 inning scrimmage game today right after a brief practice. It was a great workout against some cool guys. So we're planning to do it again next week. That's April 9th, 1:00PM at Five Mile and Inkster in Livonia. We're getting real good turnouts for practices this season...why, I don't know. But if you haven't made it to one yet, don't you think it's about time?

BTW, we won the scrimmage with a 10 run, bottom of the 7th rally, 21-20.

Mar-27-00 (updated 5:48pm) Next practice: April 2nd at 1:00PM
Practice
Next Practice is this Sunday, April 2nd at 1:00PM, again in Livonia at Five Mile and Inkster.
Call me, LaRue, or Malloy for directions if you need em. Or email.

And check the this page for updates.

Barry D.
Message to Barry D.: You're email's bouncing again. Do you have a new addy you'd like to share with us?

Mar-26-00 (updated 12:00am) First Practice Today; Site News
Practice
Practice is on for today in Livonia, 1PM.

Site Update
The Players Only section of the site is ready. Enough to start the season anyway. I'll give you guys usernames and passwords at practice, or you can email me for it if you want.

Mar-24-00 (updated 7:47pm) First Practice is this Sunday, weather permitting; First game is only 26 days away :)
Team Email Today
Weather permitting, we're having a practice this sunday, march 26th at 1:00 pm in Livonia. Five Mile and Inkster. A couple people receiving this message are guys that have expressed an interest in playing with us. You're welcome to come out. Let me know if you can make it, and I'll keep you posted if anything changes between now and Sunday.

Personnel Update
We're hopping we can get a few of the people who've emailed me over the winter to come out and practice with us in the coming weeks. I know I lost a few email addresses, so please email again if you're still interested.

It's looking like the class I'm taking is going to end early. So with a little luck, I'll be there on opening day :)

Mar-20-00 (updated 8:29pm) Spring today
I just looked at the calendar and realized today's the first day of Spring. It's as good a time as any to announce that our season will start April 18th, weather permitting. For those that missed Winter Meetings at Dale's, we're playing Thursdays at Softball City. No suprises.

Thanks Dale, for hosting the meeting.

The Site enhancement project has been coming along pretty well. Unfortunately I have to put off writing any new stuff for a while though, due to other demands on my time. I'll put the finishing touches on what I've got so far, delete the test data, and lock up the private section from public access in a few days.

I think I'm ready to get back on the softball diamond :)

Mar-7-00 (updated 10:54pm) Winter Meetings is a Go!
Winter Meetings 2000
See you all at Dale's house this Saturday, 7PM. Contact Dale, LaRue or me if you need directions.

Site News
I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to respond to links requests I've received over that last week or so. I'll get to that very shortly.

Feb-22-00 (updated 10:58pm) Winter Meetings Rescheduled
Winter Meetings 2000
Ok, due to lack of response, the unavailability of Jeff G., and an assortment of vacations, we've changed the Winter meetings date again. Plan on March 11th at LaRue's house. It will probably be BYOB, unless you guys suprise the hell out of us and actually RSVP.

Site News
As some of you know, I am in an e-commerce training program with my employer, DCI. This will be the cause of my missing every game in April. Anyway, armed with all my wonderful new skillz, a dedicated Apache web server running under my basement staircase, and an itch to use these, I'm going to be making some improvements to this website. Check in at this new site update page every so often, because I'll be adding links to a my work-in-progess. Note that I've added this link to the top of this page, and not the site index page.

Feb-3-00 (updated 9:27am) Winter Meetings 2000 date set
Winter Meetings
We've decided on February 26th for a Winter Meeting. We don't have a place in mind. If anyone wants to volunteer to host, let me or LaRue know. Otherwise we're probably going to do it at a sports bar again.

Please let me know if this date is ok.

Cliff Sighting
I got this email from former player/sponsor Cliff S. last week. Cliff, I responded but it bounced. I'll be calling.
Whats been happenin!! Just cruzin the web it's been quit some time since I stopped by the old softball page. How's all the boys doing? Are you guys still playing out at Liberty? As usual every time I stop by this damn page I start getting all mushey about playing again. e-mail me if you get a chance steel@REMOVETHISPARTwdl.net By the way we moved back to Livonia I lost your work# give me a buzz if you get a chance to "B.S."

Etc.
Steve Vogel at HardHitters Softball (Denver, Colorado) sent a message last week that Demarini Sports is now owned by Wilson. 18 to 20 million bucks was the sale price. Follow this link for more info...I got a nice message from Bob over at Texaco Xpress Softball Club that he thinks that ours is"...one of the top team website that I've seen on the net." We've exchanged links. He borrowed a few ideas from our site (who hasn't?), but his is one of the best Geocities-hosted softball sites I've seen in a long time, and I may be borrowing from him in the future...I've cleaned up the links page this morning, pruning out all the busted URL's.

Jan-12-00 (updated 8:08pm) Barry Sighting
Barry Sighting
I finally heard from Barry D. today. 'Bout time. He has a new job now, again with a software company in Chicago. Did some training in California. Him and Jill are still wrestling over the Detroit-Chicago thing, but I told him we're holding a spot for him on the roster, so maybe that'll tip the balance.

Personnel News
Got another email from a guy named Bernie in Flint. He might be interested in playing with us. Bernie, unless you're planning on moving down here, it's gonna be a hell of a commute. Not that it's a problem for us. Barry D. actually lived in Chicago for some of the time he played with us.

From Gerry
Thought I'd share this email from Gerry:
Just got the new Direct Sports catalog. Have you seen the new Worth PST bat? I think that's what some of those "A" boys were using last summer at Liberty. It looks cool and you can use it down to 45 degrees. Unfortunately, its $495. Let's see... $50 per man times 10 men...

Winter Meetings 2000
We have nothing planned on this yet, other than the month. February. You'll probably be getting some definite info on this year's meeting within a few weeks.

New Liberty Park League
The 2000 season sign-up form from Liberty Park came a few days ago. They've added a class "E" league this season, for "recreational" teams. To be eligible, team must have played class "D" and finished under .500. It doesn't mention anything about class "C" teams that won only 2 games in the '98 season.

Jan-7-00 (updated 5:19pm) The new millenium starts January 1st, 2001...why is that so hard to understand?

Update, 5:15pm
I just received an email from Jeff G. this evening advising that Mark C.'s dad passed away yesterday. Visitation is tommorow and Sunday (1/8 and 1/9). Please contact me for details if you plan on visiting.

Picks
Perhaps it's because I am a season ticket holder, but I am going to predict a major Lions upset tommorow over the Redskins. Lions by 3, 23-20. I make this prediction based on the fact that the Lions have been in a month-long downward spiral, have no running game, have never won in Washington, and are starting the backup QB...and its a playoff game on the road. We all know this is a no-brainer losing situation. We also know that the Lions lose the games they should win, win the ones they should lose. No, I'm not putting any money on this :)

Personnel News
For the first time since my knee injury a few years back, I will not be able to play the entire season. I will be in a web development training program with my employer which meets on tuesdays and thursdays, until approximately the end of April. Hopefully I will only miss two or three games, but you never know for sure.

Dec-18-99 (updated 10:36pm) Dave will return in '01 (or is that '1?)

Personnel News
LaRue told me today that Dave visited this page recently and was agast to find out he's retired from the game. Dave wants the record set straight. While it is true he did suffer a setback during his rehab, he will play again. But it won't be until the 2001 season.

Dec-9-99 (updated 8:32pm) merry xmas, happy harmonica
Happy frickin holidays, you all!

Personnel News
Pat McArthy has moved back. He's living up around Davisburg(sp), and working in Southfield. I talked to him a few days ago, and he's very interested in rejoining the team next spring. I hope to make it to his christmas party this saturday and see him in person. We also have another prospect named John from Waterford. He contacted us via this webpage and is pretty interested in joining up with us. He plays outfield and 3rd base. Judging by our email correspondences, he sounds like a pretty serious gamer so hopefully we'll be seeing him this spring. Maybe he and Pat can carpool :)

Team Luncheon
So far we haven't actually had a single one yet. We will definitely have one before the xmas holiday. Contact me if you are interested.

Barry, Barry
Barry Daniels, where are you? We miss you...contact us soon.

Barry Sanders, bite me. I was obviously wrong about his return this year. But I think I was right when I said the Lions could be a better team without him. With him, we had way too many 3-and-outs...hard to get any momentum that way. But I think the improvement in the Lions this year is more because of all disrespect the remaining players had to endure. They are a team trying to prove the critics wrong.

Anyway, If we can get a couple of home playoff games this year...wow. I paid for my playoff tickets for two games already, and I'm predicting we will have one home playoff game this year.

Covered Cages?
Anyone know of any indoor batting cages in the area, please email me.

Site news
More mutual links with other teams have been added to our Links page. Go look.

Nov-22-99 (updated 11:17am) Dave's Done.

Team news
LaRue left word on my answering machine this past weekend that Dave H. messed up something else in his foot while rehabbing his torn archilles. The Docs told him he shouldn't play anymore softball. So Dave's retiring...Which sucks.

Dinger.com sucks?
These idiots believe that if you entered your email address in demarini.com 3 years ago in order to enter their free bat giveaway, you have agreed to receive an advertisement on a daily basis from dinger.com. Despite repeated REMOVE requests, they continue spamming. If you receive this spam from them tell them I said they can bite me. Assholes. Please don't do business with these spammers. It only encourages more abuse. Besides, their site is crappy, and all they appear to sell is outdated bats.

Nov-11-99 (updated 4:46 pm) Photos, Winterpage online

Update, 4:46pm
The 1999 photos are now online! Unfortunately not everyone was at the final game, so not everyone got photographed. There are currently 7 photos on line right now, and I will add a few new ones every so often all winter.

Finally, we're about due for a winter roundtable luncheon pretty soon. These are usually held in a Mexican Town restaurant during the week. Anyone interested? Let's try for Friday, November 19th. Email if interested.

Barry D., where are you?
Dude, do you have a new email address?

Site News
All of the '99 season pages have been moved to the Archives. Go check it out if you haven't yet seen the 1999 season Combined Stats page.

I figure I will probably be updating this news page 2 to 3 times per month, until Spring training begins. I'll keep you posted on news as it develops concerning personnel changes, winter time get-togethers (like Winter Meetings 2000, and the somewhat monthly Roundtable Luncheons), player news and announcements. And I'll be posting the 1999 season pictures very soon. I'm picking them up from Mark C. today. I'll also periodically bitch about the Lions, and post your sports predictions.

If I get bored enough this Winter (not too likely, but you never know), I will revamp the site again. It's been a few years since the last time I did that. I'd like to re-scan many of the pictures in the Photo Gallery too, since I now have a flatbed scanner to replace my old hand scanner. Speaking of pictures, I seemed to have permanently misplaced my copies of some 1998 season pictures at taken Liberty Park. I think they were taken by Cathy, but I'm not sure. If anyone has any pictures from that season, let me know. I'll scan and post them, and give them back to you.
